“In sound we are born. In sound we are healed.” ― Mehtab Benton (Gong Therapy)

How can we use sound as a healing modality?

Our bodies ride sound currents. If we feel like our energy gets stuck in some way and we can’t unwind or stay in balance, our body might be tying a “knot.” But, if - in response - we listen to sound and feel its vibrations, we might notice a particular kind of physical response. We might feel a release - feel like we are coming back in harmony with ourselves. That is our body untying the “knot.” That is how our body can heal itself through sound.

Here’s another way to think about the benefits of vibration and sound. Sonic waves and vibrations produced by instruments (like tuning forks, gongs, crystal bowls, Native American Style flutes, etc.) penetrate down to the cellular level as a way of resetting cells to their natural patterns - like when inflammation or pain subside.  Vibration and sound work to calm our autonomic nervous system – which is a component of the peripheral nervous system that regulates involuntary physiologic processes like heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, and sexual arousal.

These sonic vibrations– therefore – have the potential for a variety of benefits. They can bring us into particular brain wave states, promote blood and lymph circulation, help our muscles and nervous system to relax, and lead to overall personal wellness.
